A FLEETING IMPRESSION
color game
Take a good look. Then see what your memory holds on to.
Three colors. Three chances to get close.
Color is a short-term guest
Remember the shade, not just its name.
A quiet three-color challenge. Look closely, let the color disappear, and mix the shade you think you saw.
Take a look
Easy gives you five seconds, Medium three, and Hard two. Harder modes also bring darker and less saturated shades.
Mix your memory
Use hue, saturation and brightness to rebuild the color. The original stays hidden until you commit.
See the difference
Compare both shades side by side. Perceptual color difference determines a score out of ten.
Finish the three
A round is out of thirty. Your best and average stay on this device, separately for each difficulty.
A few things to know
How does the color memory game work?
You see one color for a few seconds, then recreate it with three sliders. You do this three times per round. Choose a difficulty and play another round whenever you like.
What do the sliders change?
Hue moves around the color wheel, saturation controls how vivid the shade is, and brightness controls its maximum channel intensity. Brightness is not perceptual lightness: yellow and blue can look very different at the same setting.
How is the score calculated?
Both colors are converted from screen RGB into CIELAB, then compared using the CIEDE2000 perceptual difference formula. An identical match scores ten, with increasingly different colors scoring smoothly lower. Three matches add up to thirty.
What changes with difficulty?
Easy colors stay visible for five seconds and are fairly bright and vivid. Medium gives you three seconds and a wider range. Hard gives you two seconds and includes muted, dark shades that are more difficult to keep in memory.
What happens if I switch tabs?
Returning during the preparation or observation phase restarts the countdown for that color. You will always have a complete chance to see it before rebuilding it. Reloading starts a new round; completed scores stay saved.
Where are my records saved?
Best scores, averages, completed rounds and preferences stay in this browser. No account is required. If your browser blocks local storage you can still play, but those records will not persist.
Is this a vision test?
This is a memory game, not a diagnostic test. Screen settings and differences in color perception can affect the experience, while the numerical score always compares the displayed color values.
